I decided to study abroad in London to experience life outside this bubble I live in! Ithaca has been so good to me- great professors, awesome friends, and opportunities I could not pass up. Last year I had thought about studying abroad, but I always came up with some reason not to go. I could not talk myself out of going this time around. I chose London over other places because IC has its own London program, I would be able to speak English, and intern within the sporting industry.
While in London, I will be taking 2 or 3 classes and interning in ESPN America's marketing department! Its current focus is to re-brand American sports across Europe. I spoke with the marketing assistant (I think that's his position) at ESPN America (my abbreviation=ESPNA) and he has a British accent. He has been real nice and helpful! I will also be working with an IC alumna and a French woman.
I won't have classes on Fridays as the IC London Centre (ICLC) staff encourages students to explore London/Europe as much as possible. Bill Sheasgreen, director of the ICLC program, has already scheduled weekend-long trips to Stratford-upon-Avon, Liverpool, Wales, Stonehenge, and a couple of other places. I definitely want to visit Paris and Barcelona- we have a weeklong holiday (vacation) in mid-October...
The UK Border Agency's new immigration laws limit interns to working only 20 hours a week so there will certainly be time to explore!
